About Us

What We Do

Janey Appleseed Productions' mission is to bring outside influences in long-form improvisational theater to Seattle, to benefit improvisers and audiences in the Pacific Northwest and Western Canada.

How We Do It

Janey Appleseed brings instructors and performers to Seattle from Chicago, New York, Los Angeles, and other places in the improv world. We produce and direct local groups with outside influences, such as Bombshelter STP and the meteoric NorthWest goga Theatre. And we make performance opportunities for workshop students whenever we can.

Improvisers from the Seattle area, all over Washington State, Oregon, and British Columbia take workshops and attend the performances. Recently someone came all the way from Arizona!

History

Janey Appleseed Productions started its work in October 2002. Our first production was a set of workshops by Joe Bill and Mark Sutton of Annoyance Theater and Second City, and performances of their delightful show "BassProv."

Since then, we've produced workshops by Asaf Ronen (Directing Improv), Michael Robinson (Complementarity and Comedy without Words), Karen Herr (Let's Kick Some Ass & Improv for Women), Andy Eninger (Solo Improv), Jason Anfinsen (Character Assasination), Todd Stashwick (Organic Improv), and Jill Bernard (If it Makes you Happy, and VAPAPO).

We've also produced performances of "One Man Seen" (Andy Eninger), "Faces in the Crowd" (Jason Anfinsen), and "The Beast" and "Mayfly" (Todd Stashwick), with students from the workshops. We also produced Jill Bernard's – possibly last – performance of her delightful, tour-de-force solo show "Drum Machine."

In 2005, Janey Appleseed was proud to sponsor the Seattle Festival of Improv Theater.
